Welcome!!!
This is not an April Fools’ Day prank.
My name is Tatiane Rocha and I am freelance translator (English to Brazilian Portuguese), subtitler and proofreader. I am a Brazilian native, currently living in Lisbon, Portugal, where I completed a master’s degree in Translation from the University of Lisbon. Before Portugal, I lived in Dublin, Ireland for over two years as part of an exchange program. (You can find out more about me here).
I specialized in Audiovisual Translation (AVT) over a year ago, when I had the chance to start working in this area, which was one of the subjects I learned in college, and I just fell in love with it even more. Previously I was working with translation of texts, which I still do sometimes to diversify, but definitely AVT is what I concentrate most on now.
The focus of this blog is Audiovisual/Screen Translation, specially, subtitle translation. The goal is to share and gain knowledge about the subtitling world in the areas of Entertainment, Education, Medicine, Marketing, IT, and much more, as subtitles can be used in in a wide range of areas, and in audiovisual contents, such as:
- Films
- TV series
- Sitcoms
- Promo
- Corporate video
- E-learning
- Technical video
During this difficult time we are experiencing, TV and movie content has helped me along with others to stay home. I hope to help this type of content reach a wider audience, by breaking the language barrier. With the commitment of creating subtitle translation in a way that follow the technical aspects of subtitling, as well as using a language that is natural to the audience, without changing the meaning of the original content.
I intend to write in both English and Brazilian Portuguese.
I hope to keep my mission of contributing to the recognition and improvement of this beautiful profession.
Talk to you soon, stay safe.
